ISRAEL NEEDS OUR HELP! Massive forest fires in Haifa and the surrounding region (Carmel Mountains) in Israel have killed over 40 people to date, with dozens more wounded and missing, prompting mass evacuations. Tens of thousands of dunams of land (> 7500 acres) and trees have been destroyed and local wildlife habitats are under threat. The fires broke out in the section of the forest near the town of Usafiya, which is partly a KKL-JNF forest and partly a national park comprised of pine and oak trees. Ten KKL-JNF firefighting teams are on the scene together with the fire department, along with airplanes. As of now, the fire has not yet come under control. A Herculean effort will be required on the part of JNF/KKL to clean up and replant this vital green lung around Haifa. This effort will take many months to complete. With your help and support, we will accomplish this and restore this green jewel in the crown of Haifa, Israel’s third largest city. The funds gathered go directly to Israel.
